Born in 1968, Milan - Italy, Sergio Pitamitz showed a strong interest in photography since he was a boy.

His curiosity of foreign cultures and love for travelling led him to the geographical reportage and in 1993 he started to work on assignment for Italian travel magazines, for which he produced reportages travelling all over the world.

In 1996, Pitamitz became a contract photographer for the worldwide agency Sipa Press, one of the world's top three photojournalism agencies.

He was the first western photographer to take pictures in Iran with the permission of the Iranian Government. He photographed historical sites such as Shiraz, the lost city of Bam, and Persepolis. During his second visit to this country, he continued his reportage to include the touristic expansion of the Persian Gulf.

Pitamitz lived in London from 1998 to 2000, and he worked for Sipa Press and several Italian travel magazines as photography correspondent.

Sipa Press judged one of his pictures as one of the best photos in 1998. This photo of Frankie Dettori winning at Royal Ascot was exhibited at the 'Festival du Photojournalisme' of Angers (France) and published worldwide.

He moved back to Varese, Italy, in 2001.

Two of his wildlife images have been semi-finalist at BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2008.

He is staff photographer at Latitudes Magazine.

He is now represented by Corbis and Getty images, the two most important photo agencies in the world.

His photos have appeared in publications worldwide, among them Newsweek, Figaro Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, Panorama Travel, In Viaggio, Oasis, Airone, Travel and Leisure, Geo Magazine and various publications of National Geographic Society.
